Video Reporting: Proven Effective and Engaging (Summer 2021 Parent Survey Results)

Working with our colleagues at Pearson, Spotlight recently conducted a survey of hundreds of parents who received video reports of their students’ results on ELPAC, the English Language Proficiency Assessment of California.

Like those students’ results illustrated in their multilingual video reports, the survey results couldn’t be clearer:

  • Parents vastly prefer video reports to other reports they’ve seen. They find them more interesting and easier to understand.

  • Video reports help parents understand not just how their kids perform on a test, but why they take that test in the first place.

  • Perhaps most important, video reports help parents help their kids.

  • And speaking to the power of personalization, in an age of short attention span, when we all skip quickly through content that doesn’t seem relevant, over 90% of parents found the five-minutes-or-more video reports to be “about the right duration”.

In 2021 we’ll more than double our impact, producing video reports for nearly 4 million students and their families. In 2022, we’ll more than double again.

But quantity isn’t all that’s on our minds. It’s the quality of that impact that we care most about. Over the coming year we’re going to grow that impact as well, communicating with families in even more meaningful and difference-making ways.
